Lobby and Office Interiors, Express Yourself!

In recessionary times the mind of a designer can drift to more opulent interiors. The images below are of the Daily Express building in London. The exterior is in Vitroloite (coloured glass), clear glass and chromium strips. The interior which was completed in 1932 was designed by Robert Atkinson and includes interior design features by Eric Aumier (plaster reliefs) and Betty Joel (furniture).
This interior has a great Hollywood feel to it. It is direct contrast to the modern office interiors featured in my previous post on Office Fit Outs
The relief panel almost religious in a stained glass way has a soviet Tribute to Industrial Workers feel to it. Imagine a panel as ornate as that in a modern office setting, say a Google or Twitter office interior and that panel featuring hot desking workers or a water cooler.
Art Deco or Moderne (as opposed to Modern) as this style became known is a rich source of interior design inspiration today. An interior design that contains elements of religion, Hollywood Glamour and 1930's Industrial Soviet Russia, so confidently and playfully in a consevative British Newspaper Office has got me thinking about quality interiors that will stand the test of time.
If you are interested in reading more about older interior designs have a look under the history of interior design.

plaster reliefs and art deco interiors have always played significantly in art history. seeing them find their way into the contemporary scene is a triumph of creation and artistic design.
I LOVE the outside. The inside is very different to the "norm", which definitely isn't a bad thing. Especially love the embedded lights,
The design contains pieces from the medieval time, modernized by the touch of colors and glasses. Very Artistic.
